Scarlett Johansson's Tattoo Collection Shows Just How Much 'The Avengers' Means to Her (2)

With Scarlett Johansson's penchant for low backs, sheer panels, and cutouts galore, she has never kept her tattoos a secret. The Asteroid City star has made headlines dozens of times for her beautiful, intricate body art—namely, her large back tattoo of a supremely detailed twisty rose vine and resting baby lamb. Although intrigue into her tattoos only seems to pique more and more with each glamorous red carpet outing, Johansson has stayed pretty mum about their meanings over the years. Some of her ink is more forward, such as her two Avengers tattoos, while pieces, like the enigmatic "A" on her ankle, remain a mystery. "It makes me happy when I look at it," the actress said of the sunrise piece on her arm, "but the reason I had it done is very personal. Some things have to remain private." Read ahead for a breakdown of Johansson's designs and their believed significance.

Their initials are also all hidden in there," he said. Johansson got hers on her right bicep.

Robert Downey Jr. also got inked, and shared some more insight into the bonding experience. "Five of the original six Avengers got a tattoo. And the sixth was the tattoo artist, who gave it to five of us, the one who opted out being Mark Ruffalo," the actor toldEntertainment Weekly. "It was Johansson's idea, and she and Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to Los Angeles, he did me, did Renner, and then we just bullied Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it."

Johansson's back tattoo is by far the piece that gets the most attention. The tat, which depicts a vine of roses curving around a detailed baby lamb, made its debut at the 2018 Met Gala. Fans have gotten better glimpses over the years, including at the April 2019 premiere of Avengers: Endgame, thanks to the actress's penchant for low and sheer backs. The Don Jon star hasn't spoken about the body art, but her daughter is named Rose Dorothy Dauriac.

In honor of the premiere, Lord posted a carousel of images gushing over Johansson, who has become one of his dear friends over the years. "I’ve gotten to tattoo (and GET tattoos from) this perfect, kind and ridiculously talented lady for almost a DECADE! I won’t show her tattoos but I will repost them when she shows them off!!" he captioned the photos.
